Lessons of Tolerance
Diary entries 1-5 address the issue of racial tension in school. Choose one entry to respond to. How does this entry address racial tension? Does this entry focus on acts of tolerance or intolerance? Entry 1, Ms. G
ReplyDeleteThis diary entry focused on the racial tension Ms. G felt when she took her students to see the movie Schindler’s List in a predominately white upper-class neighborhood. She said that women “grabbed their pearls and clutched their purses in fear” when they saw her diverse group of students. I think it must have been hard for Ms. G. to teach her students to be accepting or at least tolerant of everyone, when they themselves where treated so poorly by others. Although the students were treated unfairly by the people at the theater, many people realized that it was wrong to treat people that way. I’m glad that her students were able to see that not all “white upper-class” people felt the same way.

This story falls in the catagory of tolerence side, because these kids are very disrespectful. They are already guess when shes going to leave them thats messed up. Most of the kids in there are a black or white person. The kids at that school most of the kids sag their pants and sometimes the people can be really bad -p,smalls

ReplyDeleteIn this diary entry there was many racial issues. It got to the point where a kid couldn't even get home without having to carry a gun beacause people of other races always messed with him. Every race was seperated and none of them mixed. I can't beleive what happened in this entry. There was a shooting just because 2 different races met eye to eye. Race isn't that big of a deal so I don't know why it is there. The only thing different is the color of your skin. In this story he just got sick of getting jumped and bullied to the extent where he had to buy a gun to keep himself safe. THIS IS RIDICULOUS!!!

Preston, I thought the same thing when I read about the kids betting on how long their new teacher would last. Do you think kids do that in real life? Team up as an attempt to get a teacher to quit?

ReplyDeleteAsians and latino's were "Killing" over territory. Well they were'nt actually killing they were fighting. This Falls into the tolerence category because, two races were pretty much at WAR! all over "territory". I think That was pretty DUMB because If the land actually belonged to someone Why fight over it!?

This student is the only white person in the class and he is thinking that he is going to get jumped, jacked or die of boredom.This entry adresses racial tension because back then most people wrew segregated and if you are the only minority then you will mostlikely get hurt in some way.

ReplyDeleteIs about this boy that gets abused. In this entry there is a lot of fighting and makeing fun of the other race. I think that you shouldnt Make fun of people just if they have different color skin or look different then you are.

ReplyDeleteIn this story people follow and threatin a girl just because she is a different race from them. After a while she gets sick of them and decides to go out and buy a gun so, she can protect herself. She thinks that if she just shows the people she has a gun then they will leave her alone. Her plan actually ends up working, but after that a guy ends up trying to shoot her, so she shoots back and he goes away. After that she thinks it is going to work out. I thnk this story shows intolerence because they don't get along just because they are a different race, all they do is make things worse between them.
Diary 3 is about this boy that get abused. he didnt want to come to school because these dude or gang or watever they calll themself were trying to make him bow down to them and he was like hell no.he never want to go to school but he though maybe school be better then jail i think he was at.

ReplyDeletei think u are right about this i mean the girl was getting talked about the race of their skin color i mean why people got to be like that.so i guess she decide to get a gun and so if they start a a talk bout her skin color ther going to be bam bam time.
to kayla, i think the story is right because the girl was getting talked about her race and skin color. so she got a gun to defend her self against the other people who are messing with her or she can at least scare them with it.
ReplyDeleteThis passage is about a student explaining how all her teachers leave. That's how bad they are. She was explainingon how she don't think she can be in that class. But she said she gave her a month.

Yes, because hes Latino and they are judging him by jis color/language. They are chasing after him because hes latino. He goes buy himself a .22 Caliber so e can scare away the people who scares him awa. and he wants to be stop them from picking on him so thats why. It did focus on tolerance becasue he had a gun and he brought it to school and he and this old guy gave eye contact to and they both pulled out their guns and started to shoot at eachother. The latino guy waited for the old guy to shot his last bullet and he did. The Latino guy went to go check and she where the old guy was at and he didn't see the old guy their becasue the old guy ran away.

yea it foucus on tolerance cuz she said that she cant stand being in that class. Also she the different kinds of races will jump her or rob her
