Going to Extreme Measures

Diaries 7&8 deal with the lengths people are willing to go to be accepted. Choose 1 to resond to. Do you think what the author did was worth it? Why or why not?

the girl in this diary entry thought it would be fun to join a sorority. To join the sorority she was required to do a bunch of things to prove she was good enough to be in the group. First she answered a series of questions, then she had to do lots of nasty things. She did all of this nasty stuff. The things she did were humiliating and disgusting.she did these things just to be accepted ,which she was. But that's not the worst part, the worst part is that now that she has been accepted in to this group of people, now that they like her, she says it was worth it.

  2. what the author did was his/her opinion not mine. If it was my opinion i'd think its a hard life these people are living to become a popular person or a powerful & strong person. If you want to be powerful or popular or a strong person then just be it; Don't join a group to make yourself better. The wrongest thing that i've ever done is to tryt o prove something to someone that wasn't me or didnt prove anything that should've done so i regrett what i did.

  3. I agree with Zoe. The worst part about Diary 8 was that she beleives that it was worth it to put herself throught that. I don't understand how someone could use the words "humiliation, shame and embarrassmetn" to describe an experience and still attach value and worth to that experience. I feel sorry for her.

  6. I chose Diary 7 because it is about gangs. No I don’t think it would be worth it because you are risking your life and getting beat up for nothing. And it would not be safe to have a family because you could be driving down the street with your family and get shot and killed. It might be worth it to him if he doesn’t have a real family and friends then he might want them to have his back. He also might want to be in the gang because he wants some drugs to do or he wants money. Brandon B

  7. i choose diary 8 beacause the author of the diary really wanted to be in the soririty badly she was willing to do anything to be in it.
being embarrased and tortured and peed on is really not worth it.
if i was her i wouldve turn around and tryied to talk the other girl out of being in the sority.

  8. Diary: This diary waws INSANE!!! I couldn't beleive what this girl went through just to get into some stupid sorority. I definitely don't think that this was worth it. Who would go through that much pain and embarassment for something so stupid? I mostly would blame this on the guys even though the girls were pretty stupid to. I don't remember myself doing anything I regret to be accepted by my friends. There probably is something I did but at least I don't remember it. There is no way these girls wont remember this for the rest of their life it is so messed up. What they did to get into this sorority wasnt worth it!!!!!!!!!!

  9. In entry 8 a girl did some stuff she regreted to get into a sority. This girl stoped talking to a girl that was kicked out of the sority. What she did was wrong. I regret trying to to get into my sister club . The club was about different cultures. ashley s

I don't see why the author would risk being Beaten, or getting broken bones and pain for a group, a gang, or for friends. It seems like people are risking their lives to be part of the croud! this was definently NOT WORTH IT!!!

  12. I chose diary entry 8 because I thought what the author did to fit in and to have friends was not worth it at all. I don't think anyone has to do anything humiliating or shameful to have friends or to fit in or be part of a group. The author even said "all the humiliation, the shame, the embarrassment was worth it" just to be part of a group and have friends who don't care about you anyway. I think she should have dropped the sorority at the first meeting when they were asking her the embarrassing questions. Her friend Sarah left, why couldn’t she? Was she scared that she won't have any friends anymore, just like Sarah? Didn’t she know she could always make new friends?

i aqree with brandon i think that it is bad that people get shot and killed for nothinq.. i think that even if you are a different race that you can walk around with your family and friends and not have to worry about qettin shot and killed or your family qetting kill right in front of you...

I don't think what the author did was really worth it. Though he does, I don't get why you would want to get beaten up just to get into a gang. So what you can get into the gang so you can get shot at and possibly get and shot and killed? I see it as a death wish. But sometimes you gotta do some risky things to survive in the community that these people lived in.

  15. Diary entry 7;
I don't think it's worth being beaten and put into a hospitalto fit in. I don't know why people would want to fit in that badly. Being different is not a bad thing. Sometimes it is actually better to be differentthan everyone else. I don't think it would be worth taking a life or bullet or dodging a bullet. No one should have to do something stupid to fit in. they should not have to kill or die to fit in.

  18. I read entry 8 and I thought it wasn't worth going through all of that to just be with a "cool" group of people. Really it is pointless and stupid. I've done something I am ashamed of doing but everyone is at least once in their life. I also think that if the people who beat you up and make you do things that are mean than they wouldn't be very good friends anyways.

  20. What the author did was NOT worth it. If i was in the authors position i would not risk getting beat up, bones broken and my life sacrificed just to b in a sorority. we have all done things in our life that we regret but being in a sorority just to fit in is something i would not do.

I couldn't agree more. I think that nobody should have to do anything to get into a group or be accepted by friends. Going to great lengths to do so just seems like a stupid idea, if you have to do such a thing, then they are not truly friends.

I don't think it was worth it because people will get hurt more oten. I wonder why some people would think thet it is cool to join a gange.

  24. i agree ~Marranda Knuths~ about diary entry 8 being very much insane. how can you do something very embarresing and shameful just to be in a group and have friends.

  25. I don't think it is worth getting beat down and be in the hospital so you can just be in a gang. Sometimes your friends like bulling others, so they want you to. And that's not right.

I agree that the worst part of her story, is that in the end she thought it was all worth it. It makes me think that she must have been really desperate for friends. What's also sad, is that there is a good chance, that in the future, she would be making other girls do the same horrrible things she hated so much.
